Your Next Move

Settle In

Have you ever felt like a stranger in your native country? Repatriation, or coming home, can sometimes feel that way for international assignees and their families. Don’t worry. The shock of reentry will wear off as you begin your new job, spend time with old friends and family, and build on the experience of your global assignment.

Reintegration and Repatriation

Here you are again…the new kid on the block. Weave your way into the fabric of your community and workplace by applying some of the networking know-how you gained as a new expat. For help with financial, tax, legal, immigration and other issues, call on your support team, including PepsiCo team members and external partners.

Bring Your Host Country Home

Most international assignees come away from their experience overseas with a deep appreciation for the people, culture, language and customs of their host country. Make it a lifelong connection and:

  • Keep in touch with your host country friends and colleagues via Skype or social media.
  • Take language classes to maintain the fluency you developed overseas. Or study another language in preparation for a future international post. Maybe you’ll go to one of the countries where PepsiCo has the largest expat populations: United States, Switzerland, Dubai, China or Thailand.
  • Scout out restaurants in your city that serve the cuisine you enjoyed in your host country.
  • Teach a friend to make some of the typical dishes you learned to cook.
  • Prepare a cultural orientation about the host country to present at a local elementary, middle or high school.
  • Incorporate holiday traditions from your host country into your family’s annual celebrations.
  • Invite international students from a local university or community college into your home for dinner or special occasions.
  • Host an exchange student.
